ABOUT FACILITATORS AND WORKSHOPS

ZIYA AZAZI
Ziya Azazi is a dancer, choreographer and a "Dervish in Progress". He shared his experience and knowledge with the public in academic and non-academic environments through performances and workshops in all 5 continents.
Ziya Azazi was born in 1969 in Antakya (TR) and is based in Vienna since 1994. From the late nineties up to the present, Ziya Azazi's dance practices have been primarily based on experimental whirling and repetition, which reflect his personal, artistic, conceptual and motional analysis of traditional Sufi dance.
He searches for the simultaneous representation of contradictory perceptions of physical awareness and a high state of ecstasy, experimenting the intensities of speed and tension made possible through whirling. He aims at transforming the usual whirling dervish image and the classical Sufi dance into a spectacular form, thus proposing possibilities for personal ritual, that do not rely on the boundaries of existing belief systems.
His work searches for the Dervish at a high level of speed, tension and emotion, and creates a space for the viewer to encounter and experience these moods. Through his performances, Ziya Azazi seeks to represent the moment of realisation when the Dervish begins to enjoy his/her achievement through the joyful and ecstatic repetition of whirling: the looping and spinning which leads to trance.

DERVISH IN PROGRESS
Workshops provide the participants with an opportunity to get to know their bodies, their boundaries, their fears, in short, themselves. Whirling is not the main objective of these studies but a mere means to reach it. Whirls help unfold the true energy of the participants by shaking their physical and mental states that they have so far been accustomed to.
Methods:
– Warm-up: Studies start with stretching and breathing exercises. At this stage, mind is readied for the next stage by concentration.
– Awareness: This stage helps participants be aware of the venue and their bodies moving in this venue by ground works and basic acrobatics.
– Whirling: At this stage, a higher level is targeted both physically and mentally. The participants, whose awareness of the venue and their bodies has changed through repetitive whirls, now need to face with this extraordinary state. This facing requires the participants to become acquainted with their environment, their bodies, and their minds once again.

CONTACT IMPROVISATION /TOUCH - FLOW & LET IT GO
Contact Improvisation is offering a training of perception (of self, others, group) on physical, mental and emotional level, by translating informations gathered through opening the senses into movement and dance. It offers open space for experiental learning and understanding of non- verbal communication and direct confrontation with others.
Instead of repeating steps and form, with improvisation you will learn how to find creativity in free expression and fluidity of your body and in connection to your partner and group.
With entering into the unknown, you will sharpen your intuition and ability of spontaneous decision-making. Contact Improvisation demands instant presence, mindfulness and curiosity and awakens unconsciousness. It immediately confronts you with body sensations in way that you shut down your mind and surrender to intuitive guidance of inner impulses.
You will question your personal perspective and vision of what means human contact today.
Teaching Topics
- developing conscious body, trust and confidence for contact
- how to listen, feel and invite partner into dance without using force, push & pull
- basic principles and tools for contact improvisation (weight transfer and work with gravity)
- flow of actions
- interplay of control and surrender
- improvisation and creativity in every day life
You will learn how to be present and wide awake enough to let go, so creation can happen through you and your partner in dance.

BODY-MIND-SPIRIT & DANCE IMPROVISATION
In the sessions we are working on awareness of the body, mind and emotions through breathing, on power and softness of movements, flow and the usage of the energy and on focusing the attention and awareness.
By traveling in an imaginary world and with will pushing the boundaries of what is possible. We are providing participants with a set of tools for improvisation that they can implement in their own creations and in daily life.
Before my first inhale and after my last exhale everything already exists.
I only have to be.
To move from point A to point B with acceptance, understanding, and sincerity.
And sometimes it happens that dance is happening through us.

DARIO CORTESE
WILD FOOD DAY & NIGHT
Through the wild slovenian west above the Hum village. Tuesday, 11th and Wednesday, 12th July
From Hum village above Baška grapa we head up towards the southern ridges of Julian Alps. It's pretty simple: we just walk and eat wild. That means, we collect a variety of edible wild plants and prepare simple dishes on the spot. Yes, some »civilised« constituents that we have with us are included.
The hike is roughly 4 to 6 hours long.
The hike is for everybody, who enjoys the elements and sleeping in the hotel with unnumerable stars. The main thread of the hike is wild food, that means edible wild plants. Roughly, two out of three incidentally selected plants species may be used as food. But first, you have to know the plants. Although more than two thirds of European flora is represented by edible wild plants, some plants are poisonous, some of them deadly. So the rule is, collect what you know.
Though the hike the most important edible wild plants of the region are not only introduced but also collected and prepared in different ways. In general, wild plants contain three to four times more vitamins and minerals as cultivated vegetables and fruits and have numerous health benefits.
Power food, indeed. Not to mention the incredible variety of unusual, but very acceptable tastes, which cannot be found in the »domesticated« kitchen.

MORE about Yahu
TEMAZCAL - SWEAT LODGE
This ceremony is an ancient alchemical procedure practiced by indigenous peoples all over the planet. It is beautiful in its simplicity, a small event with a potential of unseen proportions.
The ceremony by Yahu Maankind is Universal in its nature incorporating elements from different cultures on the planet while based on principles of Yoga.
After the passing of four seasons the moon has been full for about twelve times, working her magic on the water while revolving around the earth. Moon moves the oceans, the earth makes her way about the sun, a star among other stars within an infinite number of galaxies.
Temazcal is a celebration of the earth mother and the universe.
The heat, the contact with earth underneath and the music of the stones relaxes the cell tissues, providing them with the opportunity to release toxins. The gathering of a group establishes a code, a community, while the sacred darkness of the lodge invites to look inside; it is a work of group and of self.
The ceremony lasts between two or three hours, depending on the conditions. You need to bring water bottle, towel, swimming pants or light cloth. Take care of jewellery that may be too tight, or that may burn the skin by the heat.
In case you have a medical history that you think may be conflicting with this ceremony, such as hearth problems, you should inform the organizers beforehand.

Our promise to sustain our environment:
Venue
We are located 8km from Tolmin. The nearest village is called Hum.
Venue is in the private ground surrounded by nature, forest, meadows, spring water, waterfall, forest animals. In the ground we will build a camp where participants can set up their own tent and dancing floor is in the open on the meadow. There is a house in the property where we have a kitchen, showers, toilets and where you can charge your electronic devices.
We reduce the use of energy by setting up a campfire every evening and just by sleeping outside in tents instead of sleeping in a house.
Regarding the campfire we first consider:
-Is this an appropriate and safe environment to have a campfire? Is the local area very dry and therefore a fire risk?
-Is the fuel from a renewable resource or not? Wood collected should be dead and collected from the ground, not from living vegetation and remember that charcoal is unlikely to come from a sustainable source
-Cooking can be done more efficiently and quickly on gas camping stoves provided on the expedition vehicle
-Do not burn anything made of plastic as this can emit toxic fumes – this includes cigarette butts, bags and wrappers
-Bury the fire after it’s no longer wanted to ensure that it’s out and does not leave an unsightly blemish on the local area
-Do not leave any glass bottles or cans behind and pick up any other non-biodegradable objects such as cigarette butts and papers.
-We always assign one member of our team as a firekeeper to take care of the fire from beginning till the end
The land around our camp is well conserved and we encourage our guests to keep it that way, so no rubbish, no pollution. There is a river, so clean that you can still find crabs inside and we educate our guests to keep it that way.We also encourage guests to bathe in a river (without any soaps, only with clay). There is also a device for storing rain water in a property. The surrounding water in a river is so clean that it is drinkable.
We aim to leave only "footprints" wherever we camp and we:
-Try to avoid damaging the pristine environment
-Do not uproot plants or trees
-Carry all waste out – do not leave any plastics, cans, bottles, bottle tops or cigarette ends behind
Our promise to support our community:
Friends & Neighbours
As part of a program we take our guests to visit Babna Cave, the oldest pagan sanctuary in Slovenia. In 1920 it was the last pagan ceremony there. It is completely hidden and out of beaten tourist tracks and exceptionally powerful energetic place. We also ask our guests to leave no litter or graffiti behind and to only take photographs there as well as to not attempt to bring home any rocks or stones or other souvenirs of the location.
A fair deal
We offer local artists good working conditions, a fair wage, and empower them with training opportunities. They lead professional workshops and at the same time they are able to work and exchange with international artists to enrich their training and practice. Our chef of the kitchen is working with local operators and suppliers, sourcing food from locally-owned stores and cooking vegetarian meals for all our journey (to avoid wild animal eating) as well ask guests to not purchase deer meat from vendors as this can encourage the ongoing wild hunting in local areas of interest.
This journey (this time 3rd edition) employs 2 local dancers, 1 local musician and 2 local organization assistants to take care of the guests and environment and to support the temporary established community. We also take care to recycle cans, paper and plastics.
Our program also includes one day of wild food hike with a local guide, through the wild Slovenian west above the Hum village, where we educate people on alternative ways of eating and therefore preserving nature from mass crop production.
From Hum village above Baška grapa we head up towards the southern ridges of Julian Alps. We just walk and eat wild.
