GORAN BOGDANOVSKI / 1971

FREE LANCE dancer / performer / choreographer / teacher / curator / artistic director

 

As a dancer and performer he has worked successfully since 1989 with more than 70 choreographers and directors in many different fields of performing arts – classical ballet, physical theatre, contemporary dance, film and video. For over 10 years he was dancing for the Slovene National Opera and Ballet Theatre, from corp de ballet to principal roles (Youri Vámos, John Cranko, Milko Šparemblek, Jeremy Leslie-Spinks, Vlasto Dedivič, Pina & Pio Mlakar, Kurt joss, Istvan Hertzog, Julio Lopez, Peter Breuer, Toer Van Shayk, Irina Lukashova, Ib Anderson, Ronald Hynd​...) and at the same time parallely enjoyed a rich and versatile career of a freelance artist that brought him to work with many theatre artists and contemporary choreographers from the Slovenian and European arts scene  (Matjaž Pograjc & Betontanc, Dragan Živadinov, Milko Šparamblek, Francois Michele Pesenti, Ema Kugler, Janes Janša, Howard Katz Fireheart, Micheal Clark) among others. He also took part of research projects with Emio Greco, Josef Nadj, David Zambrano, Andrew L.Harwood ... to mention just some of them.

 

After 12 years of career as ballet dancer at Slovenian National Theatre Opera and Ballet and a free lance contemporary dancer, Bogdanovski funded Fičo Balet in 2000 that carries his choreographic ideas and projects.

Since then, he has developed his own style of expression, combining music, light, dramaturgy, technology, text and body.

Bogdanovski is known for his humour and holistic approach toward dance and life.

His artistic work reflects the physical, emotional and mental landscape of everyday life.

Transforming the mundane through art, he offer an experience to his collaborators and audiences. 

 

Goran choreographed and produced dance productions, lead international research projects, curated international contemporary dance festivals and created Fičo training a unique and inventive community dance form as ongoing long durational artistic - educational - social project in Ljubljana. He also toured extensively with his artistic works in 23 countries and is regularly giving workshops and trainings internationally. 

 

He has received the Triton Award for dance production 1:0 as best performance in 2000 in Slovenia, and was chosen as 'dance artist of the year' in 2000 by the Slovenian weekly magazine Nedelo. He also received DanceWeb scholarship 2000, 2002 in Vienna; an Artslink Award 2003 in New York, a 2004 UNESCO Aschberg Award in Montreal ... among others.

 

In 2002 he opened up and managed Kino Šiška as a rehearsal space & production of contemporary dance and theatre in Ljubljana until renovation in 2008.

 

In 2003 he launched with partners the first biannual Slovene contemporary dance platform - Gibanica (Moving cake).

 

He is one of the initiators of NOMAD Dance Academy and was artistic co-director of educational and artistic research project launched with partners from Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzecegovina and Bulgaria.

 

He is co-founder and co-curator of CoFestival - International contemporary dance festival in Ljubljana 2012.

 

From 2010 - 2012 he was initiator and director of Network of Contemporary Dance Slovenia, involving himself into establishing of Centre of Contemporary Dance Arts in Ljubljana and creating a touring network throughout Slovenia.

 

He was also involved as curator and artistic adviser for Kino Šiška in Modul-dance project of European Dancehouse Network 2010-2014.

 

In 2013 and 2014 he was curator and artistic director of festival atŠiška!, austrian-slovenian focus of contemporary performing arts

His special interests are experimenting through practice on topics like:

Improvisation, Choreography, Being present, Group consciousness, Group Dynamic, Artistic Creation, Community building, Audience development, Urban tribalism and Synergy.

One of his purposes is

helping people to expand knowledge about their bodies, mind and spirit through Dance and Creation.
